The Experience & Logistics

The Elopement Experience

Mountain elopements are all about doing things your way. No timelines to chase, no big crowds to please; just the two of you, surrounded by nature. Whether it’s a sunrise hike or a laid-back afternoon at a scenic overlook, the experience feels calm, intentional, and real.

We will meet you in the parking lot and hike up with you to the perfect, breathtaking overlook so you can say your vows on top of the world.

Mountain Elopement Photography

Your mountain elopement photography should feel as natural as the day itself. We specialize in documenting real moments- windblown hair, laughter mid-hike, quiet glances during your vows- with a mix of candid storytelling and guided direction when needed.

Mountaintop Elopement Tips & Need-to-Knows

1. Timing is Everything
Sunrise and late afternoon are gold for light — and fewer people. Planning your ceremony around these times means epic views, softer light for photos, and a calmer vibe.

2. Pack Smart, Pack Light
Mountain weather can change fast. Layers, comfortable shoes, water, and a light snack will save the day. And yes, leave the high heels at home.

3. Permits & Rules Matter
Not every trail or overlook is open for weddings. We help you navigate permits and regulations so you can avoid surprises.

4. Keep It Simple
You don’t need flowers the size of your body or a massive cake. Nature is the backdrop, so keep your styling minimal and thoughtful.

5. Photography is Key
Hiring a photographer who knows the terrain makes all the difference. They’ll capture the real moments- laughter mid-hike, heartfelt moments during vows, and sweeping landscapes, without stressing you out.

6. Expect the Unexpected
Weather, wildlife, and trail conditions can change in a heartbeat. Flexibility is your friend. The most memorable moments are often the ones you didn’t plan.

Each spot has its own vibe- let’s find one that fits yours.

Our Most Asked Questions

  • Yes! While a lot of our mountain locations have a 5-20 minute hike, we do have some epic options that don’t require any hiking at all, and are even handicap accessible.

  • Sometimes. If you are getting married in Great Smoky Mountain National Park you will need a Special Use Permit.

Blue Ridge Parkway also requires a permit for weddings.

US Forest Service does not require a special wedding permit, as long as it is under 75 guests and you found the location on your own search (we did not guide you to do).

  • Depends where your wedding is at! Great Smoky National Park, and the Blue Ridge Parkway both have a 25 guest limit (including officiant and photographer).

There are some locations that we like to use that have a 10 person limit.

  • We highly recommend that you choose to have your elopement either in the morning or later in the evening.

This is beneficial for all kinds of reasons - less crowds, beautiful lighting, ample parking. It’s even better if you can have your elopement be on a weekday, since those are slower days for tourists to be in these scenic locations.

  • Morning light and late afternoon light are the most flattering times of the day. We all love golden hour vibes for our photos, but it’s not just so we can see the sunset- it’s so you aren’t squinting, and there are no harsh or unflattering shadows on your faces.

  • Of course we will! We have a list of mountain locations that are simply gorgeous that we would love to recommend to you.
